Files may be opened with the CAD software of choice. If you need a viewer, you may download the free eDrawings Viewer available for Windows and Mac. An eDrawings ActiveX control is available for IE 6 or newer, which allows you to view CAD models directly in your IE browser. See the instructions below.

CAD files are also available for download in PDF format. For best results, Adobe Acrobat is required. Download the latest free Acrobat Reader for Windows, Mac, or Linux. Additional features are available when using Acrobat Standard or Pro.

Installation with Internet Explorer

Installing the ActiveX control for IE also installs the free eDrawings software to your computer. You will need to have administrator privileges on the computer to complete this installation.

Once installed, you will be able to view the eDrawings files (.ePRT) inside your browser using the eDrawings viewer. Other file formats may also be downloaded for use with their respective program.

Once you've logged in and clicked on the CAD drawing you wish to "view in browser", Microsoft will begin the process of downloading and installing the ActiveX control from eDrawings/Solidworks.

Step 1
Start downloading viewer, close the information bar warning

Step 2
Click on the information bar on the top and select 'Install ActiveX Control...'
